After Mr. & Mrs. Smith passed away, their daughter, Margaret Smith, inherited the home. After the passing of her sister, Gene Little and her husband George, moved into the home Gene was born and raised in. They also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here at Rosewood on April 10th, 1996. They had married on her parents 37th Wedding Anniversary. Mrs. Little decided the home was too big for her to live in alone after the passing of her husband. This beautiful old home had been the residence of the Smith family and their descendants for close to one hundred years. It had provided many fond memories, not only for the Smith family, but also for many of their friends and neighbors. From weddings, anniversary parties, and club meetings to swinging on the seventy year old swing set in the side yard, wonderful memories abound here. Naturally Mrs. Little wanted to sell the home to someone who would love it the way she does, with heart and soul.

On April 20th, 1920, Mr. And Mrs. R. E. Smith purchased the house located at 4156 Main Street. It is one of the oldest estates in Pinson Valley. This home has been nestled in the heart of Pinson for nearly 100 years. Because of Mrs. Smith’s love of roses the property was appropriately named Rosewood Farms. She was known for the beautiful rose gardens scattered throughout the property. She always had a bouquet of roses and sweet peas gracing her dining room table.
Mrs. Smith loved to entertain and there was always a gathering or party gracing the grounds of Rosewood Farms. Over the course of almost 100 years, Rosewood has been the site of many club meetings, formal dinners and family gatherings. Each Smith child’s wedding and/or reception was held here. Every New Years Eve, Mr. Smith would have a fireworks display. It became an annual affair and cars would line up & down Main Street to view his shows. The Smiths celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here at Rosewood on April 10th, 1959.

When Bill and Renee Mikell saw the home was on the market, they knew it meant for them. Renee realized her dream of creating a wedding facility like no other, could become a reality. Living in the Pinson area for 23 years, she had passed by the home on a regular basis. As soon as she stepped foot in the front door she knew she wouldn’t rest until this home was hers. After much thought & prayer, they purchased the home in May of 2006.
The Mikell Family then had to decide on a name. Mrs Little informed them that the original name of the property was Rosewood Farms. In honor of the family that has lived in & loved this home, it was named Rosewood.
Rosewood is a warm, inviting place and has now become the gathering site for the Mikell family. It is filled with laughter & love. (When a bride chooses to begin her new life at Rosewood, she will eventually meet the entire family.) Bill and Renee have two daughters who love Rosewood as much as their parents do. Krishna is married to Wesley Barber and they have three children, Hannah Mae, Adeline Rose and Andrew Paul. Kandace is married to Michael Brown and they have two children, Lila Faith and William Mikell. As their families grow, they hope to leave behind a legacy much like the Smith family before them.
